There was a new girl in town. Her name, Janie Hill. She had came to Smallville from a distant land. She had run away here because her husband had tried to kill her, and no one had believed her when she told them. It was because he had been unalowed to touch her. So the next morning while he was still sleeping, Janie had packed up her things and left. Now after finding a good enough apartment that she could aford, she was looking for a job. She passed by a place called the Talon. The sign posted on the door said,'Help Wanted,' she decided to check it out.
Meanwhile Clark was sitting in the Talon talking with Lana, when a girl, with long blond hair pulled back with a headband, blue eyes, and short bangs walked in. She walked up to the counter where Lana was at,"Hi, I saw the Help Wanted sign, where do I sign up?" She asked. "Ok, just sign this paper, and we'll set up an apointment for you tomorrow afternoon at one," Lana said. The girl signed the paper. "Hi I'm Clark Kent, who are you?" Clark asked the girl. "Oh hi, the name's Janie Hill," Janie repiled. "Are you new around here? Haven't seen you around before. My name's Lana Lang," Lana said. "Yes, I am new. I just arrived early this morning," Janie answered.
Just then another person came in. It was a tall man with a shaved head. "Hi, Lex how's it going," Clark said. "Fine," Lex repilied, looking at the new girl,"Who are you?" He asked her. "Oh I'm Janie Hill, and you are?" She asked him, extending her hand,"Lex Luthor, but you may call me Lex," Lex said shaking hands with Janie. "Nice to meet you Lex," Janie said. "Like wise," Lex answered back. "Oh, look at the time. I must be going....bye," Janie said, handing the paper back to Lana after she finished signing it. She then ran from the building, got in her car and drove off. "She seems nice," Lex said. "Who knows maybe this one will work out Lex. Wanna give her a try?" Clark said. "I don't know," Lex said, remembering the past,"I have been tricked by girls in the past before."
"Come on Lex, give her a try. I've got a very good feeling about this one," Clark said. "Oh well....I'll think about it," Lex said as he got up and left. But when no one was looking he had a big grin on his face.

When Lex got back to his manison, he went upstairs and got on his computer, and looked up Janie's address, as she had not told it to him before she left. When he found it, he got in his car and drove to Janie's apartment. Janie was still busy unpacking her things. "Can I help you with that?" Said a voice from behind her. Janie jumped. startled. She turned around,"Lex! You startled me," she repiled, trying to calm down her racing heart. "Oh, sorry about that," he said.
"Lex, did you just walk right in here without knocking?" Janie asked.
"Didn't mean to be rude, you left your door open," Lex repiled pointing to the opened door. "Oh," Janie said as she ran to the door and closed it. "What do you want?"
"I wanted to ask you if you were doing anything tonight," Lex repiled. "Not really....why?" Janie asked as Lex started picking up boxes, helping her unpack before she could say 'no'. "I thought, since it's your first night here, I could take you out to dinner, or go to the movies or something," Lex said. "Lex, are you asking me out on a date?" Janie asked him. Lex kinda blushed a little. He turned as red as an apple. "I guess you could call it that," Lex answered, still blushing.
"I don't think I'm quite ready to start dating again yet. You see my husband he......," Janie stopped in mid-sentance unsure weather or not she could trust Lex with the truth. She tried to hold back the tears, but they just started rolling down her cheecks before she could stop them. "I can see since your crying it must have been something really bad," Lex said. He put his hand on Janie's shoulder,"It's alright, if you don't want to tell me what happened you don't have to." He pulled Janie into a hug to try to make her feel a little better.
"No, it's not that Lex. It's just that you wouldn't believe me, no more than the others did," Janie sobbed into Lex's shoulder. He rubbed her back as he said,"Shhhh......it's ok, you can tell me anything and I'll believe you, and try to help you."
"Ok......you.....see, he tried to kill me, and when I went to the police, and told them, they didn't believe me cause I had no prove of it. The only thing I could do was run away. I've been running for five months non stop to keep him from finding me," Janie sobbed. "Don't worry Janie, I won't let that guy near you. If he even comes anywhere near you I'll kill him," Lex said.
Janie finnually stopped sobbing,"Your very kind. Maybe your right, let's go out tonight," Janie said. Lex smiled at her,"Good," he said.

Lex and Janie finished unpacking Janie's things an hour later, with Janie telling Lex where to sit things at. They then went to this fancy resturaunt. "So, what do you do for a living, Lex?" Janie asked him. "I own a huge compeney called,'LexCorp'.," Lex said. Lex then told Janie about his father, Lionel Luthor, who was always up to no good,"I wish he'd just leave me alone," Lex said.
"Who knows, maybe someday he will," Janie repiled. After they left the resturaunt, Lex offered to show Janie arround his manison. Janie gladly accepted. He showed Janie the most beatiful garden. They looked at some pictures together. They even sit outside on Lex's balcony, and watched the sun set. Lex put his arm around Janie's shoulder, as they watched the sun set. "Oh, Lex this is so, romatric," Janie said, smiling. Lex looked down at her, and smiled back at her.
Just then, Janie noticed how late it was,"Oh my it's getting late Lex. Could you take me home now?" Janie asked breaking the moment when they were just about to kiss. "Sure," Lex said, grabbing his car keys. He took Janie by the hand and led her to his car. Janie got in and Lex drove her home. He walked her up to her room. "Thank you Lex, this was the best day of my life," Janie said. Without warning she just leaned over and kissed him. "You welcome," Lex said. He warped his arms around her and kissed her back. They shared a long romatric kiss. "Good night, Lex," Janie said. "Good night Janie," Lex repiled back, as they broke the kiss, and Lex got in his car and left.

The next day Janie, got ready for her interview, and got ready to leave. She was a little early, but she figured it was better to be a little early then to be late. As she was walking out to her car, a gray car pulled up to her. Inside the car was Lex Luthor. 'Now this is a little too much....' Janie thought with a sigh. But trying not to be rude about it, she walked out to the car and said,"Why, good afternoon, Lex."
"Hi, Janie. I thought I'd drive you to your job interview," Lex said. "Oh, how thoughtful of you," Janie said grinning,'Like I didn't already know that. What's the matter lover boy didn't get enough of me last night.' Lex got out and opened the passager side for her. Janie got in and put on her seatbelt. Lex then got in the driver's side and they left. After Janie was done with her job interview, the guy said he'd get back with her in a few days to tell her weather she got the job or not. "Thanks," Janie said. "Where to now?" Lex asked her. "Well, Lex I think I....I....," Janie threw up on the ground,"Janie!" Lex said running over to her, and rubbing her back,"Are you ok?" He asked in a paniacked voice.
"I don't know? I guess all this traweling, and worry that my husband will find me, has made me sick," Janie answered. And before she knew it, she fainted into Lex's arms,"JANIE!" Lex screamed. He picked her up and carried her to his car, laided her in the backseat, and drove her to his manison. He got his servents to carry her to one of the guest rooms, and take care of her. Lex was very worried about Janie and also very mad at the person who had done this to her. 'That jerk! I'll kill him!' Lex thought as he turned red with rage.

An hour later Janie woke up. She looked around and noticed that she was in some type of fancy looking bedroom. 'Where am I? The last I remember is leaving the Talon after my interview and throwing up on the sidewalk. After that everything went black,' Janie thought. She looked around somemore,'Wait! I know where this is. I'm at Lex's mansion. Wow! Didn't think he cared that much,' Janie thought, grinning.
Just then the door opened and Lex walked in. He saw Janie awake,"Thank god!" he said,"I thought you'd never wake up. You'd been out for a day." Lex ran up to the bed and hugged her. "What is wrong with me Lex?" Janie asked him. "The doctors think that it may have something to do with the metor rocks," Lex said.
"Meotor rocks?" Janie said, confused. "There these rocks that fell from the sky, 10 years ago. It affects people differently, whenever they come in contact with it," Lex said. Just then one of Lex's people came in,"Mr. Luthor sir, I'm afaird I have terrible news. It seems that last night the apartment that Ms. Hill was staying in burned to the ground. And the person who did it left this letter, addressed to Ms. Hill."
Janie read the letter and her blood turned cold. "What?" Lex asked her,"What did it say?"
Janie handed the letter to Lex. It said,
"You have no where else left to run. I am coming to kill you tonight."
And it was signed, by someone named Edward.
"Your husband huh?" Lex asked. "Yes,it is," Janie said,"I don't know what to do. Lex I'm scared."
"Don't worry, Janie, he won't get anywhere near you. I'll make sure of it," Lex promised. "You don't understand, Lex he's ruthless. Whenever he wants something he always gets it, and no one stands in his way. Plus I don't want to put you in any danger Lex. I love you," Janie said, tears forming in her eyes. "Don't you worry about me. I'm quite safe," Lex said pulling Janie into a hug.
"You won't be if he finds out your involved with me," Janie sobbed. "I'm already involved Janie. There's no backing out now. I won't just stand by and do nothing, and just let the one I love die," Lex said as he kissed Janie. Janie sobbed.

Meanwhile, Edward was making a deal with Lional Luthor,"If you get me into that house, I'll help you with the problem with your son," Edward promised. "How do I know I can trust you? How do I know that you won't turn on me?" Lional asked.
"The thing is, you don't know. If you refuse my offer, you'll just have to take care of this Lex yourself, and I'll find another way to get to my wife, Janie," Edward said. "Ok, find then. I guest I'll just have to take the risk," Lional agreed, realizeing he had no choice if he was ever going to get to his son.
"Then I'll see you later, Mr. Luthor," Edward said, as he left. Lional then turned to his employees,"Watch him. Make sure no matter what he doesn't turn against me," Lional ordered. "Yes, Mr. Luthor sir."

It was ten at night. Janie had finnually gone to sleep. Lex got up from the chair he was sitting in, beside Janie's bed. He shzeesed her hand as he said,"Don't you worry Janie I'll protect you with my very life." Lex then picked up a gun, and went outside to wait for Edward.
He didn't have to wait long. Five minutes later Edward walked up to Lex. "I will not let you pass! If you want to kill Janie you'll have to do it over my dead body!" Lex demanded. He pointed the gun at Edward,"Now leave! Or I will be forced to shoot!" Edward just laughed as he pulled out a gun of his own. "So, a stand off huh?" He laughed,"I shell leave this time. But next time I will not leave until I have killed her." Edward then turned around and walked away. "Coward! Come back here!" Lex screamed.
"What did you call me!" Edward demanded. "A coward! Cause only a coward would seek out an incent girl to kill!" Lex shouted. That made Edward as mad as a hornet, and before Lex could even blink, he shot him in the chest. The shot woke up Janie. She put on a robe and ran outside to Lex,"LEX! Please speak to me!" Janie turned around and saw Edward. "You! You did this to him! Why?" She asked him.
"Well, why do you think? I wanted to kill you and he stood in my way. He said that if I wanted to kill you, I'd have to do it over his dead body. So.....I'm granting his request." Edward said. He started walking over to Lex and Janie. Janie reached for the gun that Lex had dropped when he fell unconious, but Edward kicked it out of her hands, and it went into the water. "Please! NO!" Janie begged, tears in her eyes.
He aimed the gun at Janie,"I shell kill both of you! And you will go first, Janie my dear," Edward said pointing the gun at her getting ready to fire it. But just then, someone appeared behind him. It was Clark Kent. He grabbed the gun away from Edward, and broke it in two. "Who are you? And how did you do that?" Edward asked. He tried to run away but Clark stopped him,"Your staying here until the police get here," he said.
When the police got there, Edward was taken to jail. The hospital was called for Lex. Janie cried as he was taken into the ambulance, and taken away. "Don't worry, Janie, Lex will be find," Clark asured her. "I hope your right, Clark. I couldn't bear it if he died just because he was trying to protect me," Janie sobbed. "Look, Janie Lex will be ok, I promise you that," Clark said.

Later on Janie drove to the Smallville Medical Center. She ran in and asked for Lex's room number. "I'm sorry, miss but Lex isn't allowed to have visitors yet," the nurse said. "Please? I have to see him, I'm his girl friend," Janie begged. "I'm sorry, maybe you can see him later. You may wait in the waiting room if you'd like," the nurse told Janie.
Janie just gave a long sigh as she gave up and went to wait in the waiting room. Just then the doctor came out an hour later. Janie had fallen asleep on the couch in the waiting room. The doctor touched Janie's shoulder. Janie jumped, startled. "Sorry miss I didn't mean to startle you. Are you Ms. Janie Hill?" The doctor asked. "Yes, that's me," Janie said. "I came to tell you that Mr. Lex Luthor is find. He woke up an hour ago and he's been asking for you," the doctor said. "Ok, I'll go to him. What is his room number?" Janie asked the doctor.
The doctor gave Janie, Lex's room number, and she went up to his room. When she got in there, she saw Lex laying on the bed. When he heard her come in he looked up at her. "Janie," he said,"You came." Janie walked up to the bed,"Of course I did Lex," she told him as she held his hand. "Are you ok, my dear?" Lex asked her,"He didn't hurt you did he?"
"No, I'm find. Clark Kent saved me," Janie said. "It seems that I own him a lot of favors don't I. Whenever there's danger, it seems that Clark always just happens to be there to save the day. I could never figure that out,"Lex said. "Well, that doesn't matter right now all that matters is your ok, and I'm glad," Janie said as she reached down and hugged Lex. "By the way, when are you going to be released?" Janie asked. "The doctors said that I can leave tomorrow morning," Lex said. "That's great, Lex," Janie said squalling with joy. Her and Lex kissed.
Janie left his room, and walked up to Clark,"How is Lex doing?" He asked her. "He's find," Janie told him,"I'd like to thank you for saving Lex and me, Clark," Janie said. "Don't mention it. Glad to do it. But why is that guy after you in the first place?" Clark asked. "I don't know," Janie lied. She wasn't sure if she could tell Clark the truth yet. Right now she felt the only person she could trust with the truth is Lex.
Janie left and went back to the manison. Clark went in to see Lex. "How are you feeling Lex?" Clark asked. "I'm find. Thanks for asking," Lex said. "Janie was acting very weird when I talked to her outside, Lex," Clark said. "In what way?" Lex asked. "I don't know but she's acting as if this is her fault," Clark repiled.
"She shouldn't," Lex said. "I was also wondering, why that guy was trying to kill you and Janie in the first place," Clark wondered. "Please, Clark, for our friendship I'm asking you to stay out of this. Some things are better just left alone," Lex said. "Ok Lex," Clark said. But wasn't just going to let it drop just like that. Not when his friends are in danger. "I can't help but get the feeling that maybe my father's behind this as well," Lex said.
"You should get some rest, Lex," Clark said as he was getting ready to leave, Lex grabbed his arm,"Be careful Clark. If my father's behind this, it could be very dangerous," Lex warned. "I'll be careful," Clark said. He then got up and left.

The next morning, Janie got a call from the Talon. How they knew to call her at Lex's mansion was beyond her,"You got the job," the guy on the other line said. "That's great," Janie said into the phone,"You may start work this weekend at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM."
"Ok," Janie said. She then hung up the phone. She heard a noise from downstairs. She went to see what it was. It was Lex, back from the Smallville Medical Center. "Lex!" Janie said running down the stairs and jumping into Lex's open arms. They hugged, then they kissed. "Hey, Lex guess what," Janie said. "What?" Lex said. Janie giggled. "I said, guess," she laughed.
Lex scarcthed his head,"Uhh....you found another apartent and your moving out." Janie laughed,"No," she said,"I got the job at the Talon." Lex grinned,"Oh Janie. That's wonderful!" Lex said, as he picked her up, and kissed her. He then put her down. "By the way Lex. I've been meaning to thank you for letting me stay here," Janie said. "No problem," Lex said,"It's the least I can do. After all someone has to protect you from Edward."
"I'm not helpless Lex. You don't have to protect me," Janie said. "I know that, Janie. I just don't want to take any chances is all," Lex said. "But, Edward's in jail," Janie said. Lex handed Janie the newspaper,"Read this," he said. Janie read the front of the paper. It said that they let him out of jail, cause there was no proff that he was trying to kill Lex and Janie. "Oh no! NO! I knew this would happen! I have to get away from you Lex before he comes after me, and you get killed trying to protect me. I can't put you in danger anymore," Janie said. She then sobbed.
Janie turned to leave,"Janie wait!" Lex said grabbing her arm,"It's my choice. I love you, and I want to protect you. I'm not in danger cause of you. And it wasn't your fault that I got hurt. Please don't leave," Lex begged. He pulled Janie into a tight hug. Janie cried as Lex hugged her.

"You won't be if he finds out your involved with me," Janie sobbed. "I'm already involved Janie. There's no backing out now. I won't just stand by and do nothing, and just let the one I love die," Lex said as he kissed Janie. Janie sobbed.

Meanwhile, Edward was making a deal with Lional Luthor,"If you get me into that house, I'll help you with the problem with your son," Edward promised. "How do I know I can trust you? How do I know that you won't turn on me?" Lional asked.
"The thing is, you don't know. If you refuse my offer, you'll just have to take care of this Lex yourself, and I'll find another way to get to my wife, Janie," Edward said. "Ok, find then. I guest I'll just have to take the risk," Lional agreed, realizeing he had no choice if he was ever going to get to his son.
"Then I'll see you later, Mr. Luthor," Edward said, as he left. Lional then turned to his employees,"Watch him. Make sure no matter what he doesn't turn against me," Lional ordered. "Yes, Mr. Luthor sir."

It was ten at night. Janie had finnually gone to sleep. Lex got up from the chair he was sitting in, beside Janie's bed. He shzeesed her hand as he said,"Don't you worry Janie I'll protect you with my very life." Lex then picked up a gun, and went outside to wait for Edward.
He didn't have to wait long. Five minutes later Edward walked up to Lex. "I will not let you pass! If you want to kill Janie you'll have to do it over my dead body!" Lex demanded. He pointed the gun at Edward,"Now leave! Or I will be forced to shoot!" Edward just laughed as he pulled out a gun of his own. "So, a stand off huh?" He laughed,"I shell leave this time. But next time I will not leave until I have killed her." Edward then turned around and walked away. "Coward! Come back here!" Lex screamed.
"What did you call me!" Edward demanded. "A coward! Cause only a coward would seek out an incent girl to kill!" Lex shouted. That made Edward as mad as a hornet, and before Lex could even blink, he shot him in the chest. The shot woke up Janie. She put on a robe and ran outside to Lex,"LEX! Please speak to me!" Janie turned around and saw Edward. "You! You did this to him! Why?" She asked him.
"Well, why do you think? I wanted to kill you and he stood in my way. He said that if I wanted to kill you, I'd have to do it over his dead body. So.....I'm granting his request." Edward said. He started walking over to Lex and Janie. Janie reached for the gun that Lex had dropped when he fell unconious, but Edward kicked it out of her hands, and it went into the water. "Please! NO!" Janie begged, tears in her eyes.
He aimed the gun at Janie,"I shell kill both of you! And you will go first, Janie my dear," Edward said pointing the gun at her getting ready to fire it. But just then, someone appeared behind him. It was Clark Kent. He grabbed the gun away from Edward, and broke it in two. "Who are you? And how did you do that?" Edward asked. He tried to run away but Clark stopped him,"Your staying here until the police get here," he said.
When the police got there, Edward was taken to jail. The hospital was called for Lex. Janie cried as he was taken into the ambulance, and taken away. "Don't worry, Janie, Lex will be find," Clark asured her. "I hope your right, Clark. I couldn't bear it if he died just because he was trying to protect me," Janie sobbed. "Look, Janie Lex will be ok, I promise you that," Clark said.

Later on Janie drove to the Smallville Medical Center. She ran in and asked for Lex's room number. "I'm sorry, miss but Lex isn't allowed to have visitors yet," the nurse said. "Please? I have to see him, I'm his girl friend," Janie begged. "I'm sorry, maybe you can see him later. You may wait in the waiting room if you'd like," the nurse told Janie.
Janie just gave a long sigh as she gave up and went to wait in the waiting room. Just then the doctor came out an hour later. Janie had fallen asleep on the couch in the waiting room. The doctor touched Janie's shoulder. Janie jumped, startled. "Sorry miss I didn't mean to startle you. Are you Ms. Janie Hill?" The doctor asked. "Yes, that's me," Janie said. "I came to tell you that Mr. Lex Luthor is find. He woke up an hour ago and he's been asking for you," the doctor said. "Ok, I'll go to him. What is his room number?" Janie asked the doctor.
The doctor gave Janie, Lex's room number, and she went up to his room. When she got in there, she saw Lex laying on the bed. When he heard her come in he looked up at her. "Janie," he said,"You came." Janie walked up to the bed,"Of course I did Lex," she told him as she held his hand. "Are you ok, my dear?" Lex asked her,"He didn't hurt you did he?"
"No, I'm find. Clark Kent saved me," Janie said. "It seems that I own him a lot of favors don't I. Whenever there's danger, it seems that Clark always just happens to be there to save the day. I could never figure that out,"Lex said. "Well, that doesn't matter right now all that matters is your ok, and I'm glad," Janie said as she reached down and hugged Lex. "By the way, when are you going to be released?" Janie asked. "The doctors said that I can leave tomorrow morning," Lex said. "That's great, Lex," Janie said squalling with joy. Her and Lex kissed.
Janie left his room, and walked up to Clark,"How is Lex doing?" He asked her. "He's find," Janie told him,"I'd like to thank you for saving Lex and me, Clark," Janie said. "Don't mention it. Glad to do it. But why is that guy after you in the first place?" Clark asked. "I don't know," Janie lied. She wasn't sure if she could tell Clark the truth yet. Right now she felt the only person she could trust with the truth is Lex.
Janie left and went back to the manison. Clark went in to see Lex. "How are you feeling Lex?" Clark asked. "I'm find. Thanks for asking," Lex said. "Janie was acting very weird when I talked to her outside, Lex," Clark said. "In what way?" Lex asked. "I don't know but she's acting as if this is her fault," Clark repiled.
"She shouldn't," Lex said. "I was also wondering, why that guy was trying to kill you and Janie in the first place," Clark wondered. "Please, Clark, for our friendship I'm asking you to stay out of this. Some things are better just left alone," Lex said. "Ok Lex," Clark said. But wasn't just going to let it drop just like that. Not when his friends are in danger. "I can't help but get the feeling that maybe my father's behind this as well," Lex said.
"You should get some rest, Lex," Clark said as he was getting ready to leave, Lex grabbed his arm,"Be careful Clark. If my father's behind this, it could be very dangerous," Lex warned. "I'll be careful," Clark said. He then got up and left.

The next morning, Janie got a call from the Talon. How they knew to call her at Lex's mansion was beyond her,"You got the job," the guy on the other line said. "That's great," Janie said into the phone,"You may start work this weekend at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM."
"Ok," Janie said. She then hung up the phone. She heard a noise from downstairs. She went to see what it was. It was Lex, back from the Smallville Medical Center. "Lex!" Janie said running down the stairs and jumping into Lex's open arms. They hugged, then they kissed. "Hey, Lex guess what," Janie said. "What?" Lex said. Janie giggled. "I said, guess," she laughed.
Lex scarcthed his head,"Uhh....you found another apartent and your moving out." Janie laughed,"No," she said,"I got the job at the Talon." Lex grinned,"Oh Janie. That's wonderful!" Lex said, as he picked her up, and kissed her. He then put her down. "By the way Lex. I've been meaning to thank you for letting me stay here," Janie said. "No problem," Lex said,"It's the least I can do. After all someone has to protect you from Edward."
"I'm not helpless Lex. You don't have to protect me," Janie said. "I know that, Janie. I just don't want to take any chances is all," Lex said. "But, Edward's in jail," Janie said. Lex handed Janie the newspaper,"Read this," he said. Janie read the front of the paper. It said that they let him out of jail, cause there was no proff that he was trying to kill Lex and Janie. "Oh no! NO! I knew this would happen! I have to get away from you Lex before he comes after me, and you get killed trying to protect me. I can't put you in danger anymore," Janie said. She then sobbed.
Janie turned to leave,"Janie wait!" Lex said grabbing her arm,"It's my choice. I love you, and I want to protect you. I'm not in danger cause of you. And it wasn't your fault that I got hurt. Please don't leave," Lex begged. He pulled Janie into a tight hug. Janie cried as Lex hugged her.
