I really like how their friendship is portrayed in the anime, you can clearly see how much Rei actually cares about Usagi. I might even dare say: all the senshi care about Sailor Moon, especially the inners, but Rei cares about her just a tad more then the others do. Even tough she is often really mean to Usagi, and the two of them bicker a lot, when things get rough you can clearly tell the two of them have a special bond. Like in the StarS when the inners' starseeds were taken by Galaxia - Mars was the one who jumped in front of Moon to take the blow. When Rei is dying I always cry a lot. 
Especially in the StarS when Usagi held her crying and she said "Sorry I can't protect you..."
The Usagi-Rei relationship is my favourite in the series.
